We are on many brinks. This morning, another one. Brinks are here. We are here. In my class yesterday, I told people that I hope they got activated (within reason) by the material, that it’s okay to be uncomfortable, that the discomfort is a doorway. When I say the word “attention,” what happens inside you? Do you want to run away? Does your body get squeezed? Do you go dense, or maybe you expand with bubbles?
Attention is a hot potato.
Everyone knows it’s an issue and most people have an urge to ‘do it differently’ than they are because they don’t feel good. But most people do nothing because taking action can feel like hauling a large wet beast out of the ocean. Where is muscle-power? How do I do this?
You might even be about to stop reading because you don’t want to deal.
I get it. If hearing it from an animated human instead of words on a page feels easier, you can watching the class I taught yesterday.
Here’s the pivot point. Here’s the opportunity.
Six months from now, in September, will you be the person who noticed the urge to reclaim your attention but let it pass you by and so you are still imprisoned by your overwhelm or brain scatter or scrolling habit or a life you constantly complain about?
Or…
will you be the person who answered that internal call, turned toward your own attention in this most potent global time and learned to inhabit presence alongside other people and created a beautifully paced (that doesn’t mean slow all the time) life full of rich relationships to self, others, the natural world? Will you become one of the people charting the way toward liberation from the cloak weighing all of us down right now?
It’s possible. You get to choose.
