Thanks for this! So helpful to read. I would add that so much of the work of a freelancer is relational, which is hard to quantify and very time-consuming. I think those of us that thrive in this role have to have some amount of energy for being out in the world, meeting people, creating generous connections, or at least a work partner/collaborator who does.
Thank you for this, Molly. I appreciated the nuance and many reminders throughout.
One phrase jumped out at me — and has been sitting with me for almost four months now.
“My business takes a big hit by not being on social media.”
Since the question you were asked was about financials, I'm guessing this is this from a monetary lens. (?)
I want to add in some of the harder-to-measure, harder-to-see elements through which your business (from my eyes) is strengthened by not being on social media. I think you can sense them also, but I want to illuminate some in text because they're so often not seen by folks.
You are more in tune with your nervous system, which I’m experiencing more and more how nervous system regulation & SE is related to intuition and energy. That strength—and protecting your attention from social media, knowing the sacredness of your attention—keeps you able to notice impulse, receive words/ideas when the flow is right, etc. etc. It attracts people like me to your work at a deep, serious level. (I don’t know if I would have been 3 years in the Loam + two retreats if you were active on social media; it changes everything. Everything affects everything.) The offerings from your business are more potent. Your energy and attention are here, your life force can flow more vibrantly because you’re not following a blueprint, you create your own recipes and let them change seasonally… I can’t articulate in words all the things, but I can sense them energetically.
Your business has deep roots in nutrient-rich soils by not being on social media (because that's what was right for you, in alignment with your spirit). You’re creating a diverse world whose plants replenish & rebuild the soil, leaving more than was here before. Your family and friends and community benefit. Your body benefits. The whole interconnected web of ripples out. That’s my view ;)
Gratitude and love to you, for all these loamy soils you're nurturing, the deep roots you're growing <3

Courtney, ABSOLUTELY. Well said. I love the phrase "generous connections"
lucid, clear, kind, generous ... thank you, Molly
you are welcome!
Super helpful, Molly! Lots of internal “yes!” as I read... thank you for putting this into words.
love an internal yes :)

Rebecca, I'm so touched by your witnessing here. It means a lot to me. Thank you for making space to share it all with me!
This is so helpful, especially the generous details, down to the onions!
chopping onions while working math financials... the combo that gets me through!
Great reflections. 🧡
